I picked up my first 2015 Craigslist find a couple of weeks back that I shared with all of my IG friends.
I’ve been wanting to switch out a few of our dining room chairs for a bench for a while, but hadn’t found the right one. I also wanted to do it on a budget. And goodness, who knew benches were so expensive!
My criteria was minimal: be a bench, and don’t tip over.
monkeys kids eating at this table 24/7, sturdy was honestly the only requirement.
So the good news and the bad news for you:
Good News: I realized that this is the bench that we ended up with so you can recreate this look yourself.
Bad News: It’s WAY more expensive brand new. We scored ours “used”, PLUS two huge dining chairs for $125!
I’ll just cross my fingers though that your budget isn’t as tight as mine was, so you can splurge for that full price World Market bench. 🙂
Anyway, busted out my handy dandy paint sprayer, and fell back in love with this thing. Seriously, SO easy to use and such easy clean up. Get it.
After two coats of white semi-gloss paint, it was ready for life at the table!
I chose a latex semi-gloss because it tends to wipe easier without staining.
This is going to be a serious high traffic piece so this was important to me. And latex paint is hard enough, that if left to cure for the proper amount of time (48 hours), should require NO top coat. In hindsight, I probably should’ve/couldn’t done a third coat but my patience for those sorts of things are minimal. 🙂
I also know though that this bench will get knicks and dings in the paint, and I’m okay with that because that’s sort of the look of my house (we call it farmhouse chic…some may just call it children). 🙂
And for the record, this is our dining table and we absolutely LOVE it. Mainly because of how many people we can fit around it at any given time (we’re a family of 5 now ya’ll). And it is a built-in butterfly extension leaf. Brilliant.
Anyway, that’s my newly transformed farmhouse bench!
